13 Pages Essays / Projects Year: Pre-2021

The bulk of your grade in this course will be based on your performance on a mini-brief and oral argument during the Moot Court scheduled for Monday, November 16. Your assignment for the brief and Moot Court argument appears below the Trial Chamber judgment. Students will be given their assigned argument numbers during the first class session. For this assignment, you are to write a six-page, double spaced brief (in 12 point Times Roman font with 1 inch margins), supporting your assigned argument for the Defense or Prosecution. If there are more than 18 students, some students will be assigned to be judges, and to write a written judgment for their assigned issue. Your paper should constitute only the argument portion of the brief. Argument headings should be single spaced and in bold. Do not include front matter, such as a statement of jurisdiction, summary of argument, a statement of facts, nor a prayer for relief. Your written assignment is due at the beginning of the final class session. Please number and staple your pages, and include your name at the top of the first page of the brief. While you may discuss the assignment with your classmates, you are to write the brief on your own. Most of the materials you will need to do the assignment are contained in the course pack, but you are encouraged to do additional outside research via the internet if you’d like to supplement these sources. You should cite to the facts contained in the Trial Chamber judgment below and to legal authorities from the reading assignments. Cites should be in the body of the brief (do not use footnotes). Cites do not have to be in full “Blue Book” form.
