The macromolecules focused on in this lesson are PROTEINS. All proteins are polymers of amino acids (i.e. amino acid monomers are joined together to form a chain) containing one or more chains. As pharmacists it is important to know about proteins because proteins form a major component of the body and many drugs target proteins such as enzymes or receptors. Proteins such as insulin and various antibodies are also used as medicines.
