In recent decades, Australia is within the top five producers in mineral industry globally. Since the first mineral exploration, Australia mining industry has experienced cycles of boom and bust in history. Mining refers to the collection of all minerals in forms of gas, liquid and solid, and overall required mining processing such as milling, screening and washing in order to make the raw materials for sale (Clements, Ahammad and Qiang 1996, p. 296). There are three gold boom in modern Australian history, which is the famous Australian Gold Rushes (1850s-1860s) followed by the Western Australian gold boom (1890s-1910s), then the largest Australian gold mining growth from 1978 to 1998 (20 t to 314 t) (Huleatt and Jaques 2005, p. 29). The first section of the essay introduces the early mining history of the whole Australia and Kalgoorlie. Secondly, this essay describes the discovery and beginning of gold mining in Kalgoorlie including the concepts of miners and mining methods. The next section discusses the economical, social and environmental impacts of mining on Kalgoorlie involving the lasting influences on the goldfield. The final section concludes the current gold mining situation in Kalgoorlie.
