Early in the semester, you are to have a conversation with someone who no longer attends school, and whose experiences of schooling are different to yours. They may have attended a different type of school; or attended at a different time, or place. Your chosen subject may be a peer, a friend, a family member, etc. The aim of this assignment is to enable you to reflect on the role of teachers' work in shaping your experiences, and those of your chosen subject, at school. To do well in this assignment, you will demonstrate how your developing understanding of the educational research literature, in particular the required readings, assist you to reflect critically on teachers' work. For example: • Are you able to identify any of the five types of teachers' work described by Comber (2006) i.e., interpretive work, pedagogical work, discursive work, relational work, institutional work? • Are you able to demonstrate the changing nature of teachers work, as described by Connell (2009)? • Is there any evidence of how teachers respond to the knowledge question, the learning question, and the outcomes question, as described by Cochran-Smith (2000). • Can you detect the impact of neoliberal policies on teachers' work, as detailed by Hill (2007).
